Parlêtre—the members' commons

Parlêtre is the School’s members-only commons—part forum, part live chat—for the ongoing conversation between gatherings. Find it at Parlêtre.

Channels

The board is organized into channels. Some are open to every member; others belong to a committee, a cartel, or a working group and appear only to their members. Channels come in three kinds:

• Forum channels hold threaded discussions—start a topic, others reply.
• Chat channels are a live stream of messages, like a group chat.
• Video channels are browser meeting rooms—join with one click, no app to install, and see who’s already live from the channel list.

Posting

Open a channel and type in the composer at the bottom. Enter sends; Shift+Enter adds a new line. You can attach a file, and @mention someone to notify them directly. Posts can be edited or deleted after the fact.

Staying current

• The bell (top right) collects your mentions and replies.
• Each channel tracks what you haven’t read and offers a jump to unread.
• You can subscribe to a channel for email digests, and—where it’s enabled— reply to those emails to post back to the thread.

Some channels are disappearing: messages there are redacted a set time after posting. They’re marked clearly at the top.
