Tuition & dues

The School is sustained by its members. Two things may apply to you—dues (annual membership) and tuition (for members in training). Both are tied to active standing: if you’re on leave, resigned, or emeritus, neither applies.

You’ll find everything in one place under the Account tab of My Formation, and you can always pay dues directly at the Dues page.

Dues

Dues are annual and tiered by role: pre-candidates pay the least, candidates more, and full analysts and scholars the most. The exact amount for your role and the current year is shown on the dues page—amounts are set per academic year, so check there rather than assuming last year’s figure.

Who owes dues: members on the analyst or scholar tracks (pre-candidate, candidate, analyst, scholar) in active standing. Auditors don’t owe dues.

Tuition

Members in training—pre-candidates and candidates, on either the analyst or scholar track—pay tuition each year, for four years in total (the years don’t have to be back-to-back). Once you advance to Analyst or Scholar, you no longer owe tuition. The Account tab shows your progress toward the four years.

Recording your decision

Each year, record where you stand for that year:

• Committed—you intend to pay, and will choose how below.
• On a payment plan—you’ll pay in installments.
• Paid in full—settled in one payment.
• Skipping this year—you’re not paying tuition this year.

Paying

Once committed, you can pay in full in a single transaction, or set up a payment plan—either two installments (September and February) or nine monthly ones (September through May). You then pay each installment as it comes due. When the last one is paid, your year flips to paid in full automatically.

“Covered by tuition” seminars

If you’re current on tuition for the year—committed, on a plan, or paid in full—seminars that the School covers for tuition-paying members are free to you. At registration you’ll see a one-click covered by tuition option, with no payment step. If you’ve chosen to skip the year, you pay the regular fee.

Donations

Anyone—member or not—can make a gift on the Donate page, any amount, any time. It’s always optional and separate from dues and tuition.

Questions about your account

Amounts, what you’ve paid, and what’s outstanding all live on the Account tab, on one statement with a running balance. If something looks off, the treasurer can help—reach out and they’ll reconcile it. You can also report a payment or fee from before this website there, and the treasurer will review it.
