Lacanian School of Psychoanalysis

My Formation

Your personal hub—advisor, formation steps, tuition, and the groups you belong to.

My Formation is your own place in the School, gathered on one page. It has up to three tabs, each with its own link you can return to or share:

  • Formation—your advisor and your advancement steps.
  • Account—your tuition decision, dues, and a statement of every charge and payment (shown when it applies to you). See the Tuition & dues guide.
  • Groups—the cartels, seminars, and other groups you belong to now and have in the past.

Your advisor

When you’re accepted into LSP you enter as a Pre-Candidate and choose an Advisor. Your advisor supports you through your formation and presents your demandes to the Meeting of the Analysts. You can choose or change your advisor from the Formation tab; they’re notified when you do. The School encourages you to speak with a prospective advisor first, and, if you decide to change advisors, to talk through your reasons for the change.

The steps of formation

Formation advances one step at a time, and each step is decided by the Meeting of the Analysts:

  • A Palimpsest carries you from Pre-Candidate to Candidate.
  • A Passage (analyst track) or Traversée (scholar track) carries you from Candidate to Analyst or Scholar.

When you’re ready for a step, you open a demande from the Formation tab. You can add a short statement of your readiness and link the Work you’re presenting (it lives in the Works catalog, not as a file here). Your advisor then writes a recommendation and presents it to the Meeting, which decides. You can withdraw an open demande at any time before it’s decided.

The Formation tab also shows your history—the steps you’ve already taken, drawn from your role over time, so your path through the School is all in one place.

What you do, and what the School does

You do the personal parts: choose your advisor, open a demande, write your statement, link your work, and record your tuition decision. Your advisor presents your demande, and the Meeting of the Analysts makes the decision. When a step is approved, your standing advances automatically.
